The Most Dangerous Venomous Snakes: Africa

Cape Cobra

  • Scientific name: Naja nivea
  • Family: Elapidae
  • Subfamily: Elapinae
  • Genus: Cobras
  • Length: Up to 5.2 feet (1.6 meters)
  • Venom: Neurotoxic

The cape cobra has the most effective venom of all African cobras and is a nervous snake that easily becomes aggressive and attacks quickly. Without treatment, a bite is very likely to be fatal due to an inability to breathe properly. Like the black mamba, it can often be found near human settlements.
