Russel’s Viper
- Scientific name: Daboia russelii
- Family: Vipers
- Genus: Daboia
- Length: Up to 3.9 feet (1.2 meters)
- Venom: Hemotoxic
The Russel’s viper is found in all of Asia and prefers to lurk in bushes or high grass waiting for prey. As there are a lot of little mammals (rats etc.) on plantations and farmland, they make a real paradise for Russel’s vipers. But this is a little less idyllic for farm workers. This snake is also known for injecting a huge amount of venom to defend itself, which can be deadly. Not a lot of snakes do this, as it takes a lot of energy to produce venom. Normally, snakes only inject a small amount of venom into their attacker’s wound.
