All About Ants
Ants are tiny insects with amazing strength; they are super organized and dedicated team players!
What Are Ants?
Ants are small insects that can be found almost everywhere in the world. They live in large groups called colonies and work together there. Within a colony, there are different types of ants with various roles, such as workers, soldiers, and a queen. Ants can be incredibly strong and carry things that are much heavier than themselves. Plus, they communicate with each other using scents known as pheromones.
Main Characteristics of Ants
1. They Are Extremely Strong
Ants are the strongest animals in the world. They carry 40-50 times their own weight.
2. They Form Huge Colonies
Ants live in colonies. The largest colony in the world is made up of Argentine ants and spans 3,700 miles (6,000 km): from Northern Italy through Southern France to the Spanish Atlantic coast. It is estimated that there are 20 quadrillion ants on Earth. That's 20,000,000,000,000,000. For every single person, there are 2.5 million ants.
3. They Work Together
The tasks within the colony are clearly assigned – much like in a bee community. There are queens, workers, and soldiers. The males fertilize the queen's eggs.
