Out Dog Breed Section

In our pet section you will find pet profiles for 32 dog breeds that are known to be child-friendly!

There are so Many Dog Breeds!

There are supposed to be over 800 dog breeds worldwide. This estimation is certainly a bit over-the-top, but it is believed that there are about 200 dog breeds and the rest, so to speak, "variations" of hem. Wether they are big or small, have short or long legs, smooth or curly coat, a short or a long nose - every breed has its own special characteristics!

The Most Popular Dog Breeds:

Medium-sized dogs are the perfect mix. They're small enough to just barely pick them up and big enough not to trip over them ;) According to the most recent stats from the American Kennel Club for 2022, they are:

  • 1. Labrador retrievers
  • 2. Poodle
  • 3. Bulldog
  • 4. Beagles
  • 5. Cocker Spaniels
  • 6. Border Collie
  • 7. Shiba Inu
  • 8. Samoyed
  • 9. Schnauzer
  • 10. Fox Terriers

Which Breeds Are Suitable for Beginners?

There are dogs with a "will to please". Especially Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever are known for this. They are very good natured, easy to educate and therefore a perfect match for beginners. This applies to Bichon Frisé, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Pug and Havenser, too.

Activity Level

Athletic Breeds

The Jack Russell Terrier loves to run. One says "It is not getting older. It will get better! "If you like to exercise and are out and about a lot, Border Collies, the Irish Setter, Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Dalmatians, Huskies and Boxers are also ideal.

Slow-Paced Breeds

Every dog likes to move. Well. Maybe there are dogs that don't like to move as much as others do. Think of the French Bulldog. It is one of the most slow-paced and relaxed dog breeds. The Chihuahua likes to run, but it cannot handle long distances like a Jack Russell or Irish Setter does ;) The breed enjoys being carried around a lot more. This applies to the Maltese and the Japanese Chin, too. You cannot carry a Bernese mountain dog, of course, but it is more of a relaxed dog, too.

Character and Temperament

The breed has nothing or only little to do with the character of a dog. Of course, there are breeds that have a pronounced predisposition to aggressive or otherwise friendly behavior. The character, however, is formed by the training and the experiences a dog makes. This has a big influence on the predispositons of the dog. They turn out to be either better or worse.
