Animals That Recognize Their Reflections

Magpie

Compared to primates, birds have tiny brains. But there is one bird that passes the mirror test: the magpie. In 2000 and 2008 at the Ruhr University of Bochum, some magpies were marked with a red dot on their necks. The birds didn’t notice the mark, but tried to scratch them off as soon as they saw themselves in the mirror.
