Hunting Strategy
"Digging a trap"
The trapdoor spider (yes, that’s actually its name!) is from the tarantula family and digs deep holes that it covers with a lid made from web, earth and little stones. Now the spider can just sit back and wait until an unwitting insect comes by.
The trapdoor spider can feel even the finest vibration! As soon as a “snack” is nearby, it shoots out of its hole like a rocket and attacks the insect, putting it in a headlock and dragging it underground. Bon appetit.
