The bolas spider doesn’t weave a web, but creates a kind of sticky fishing rod from its silk. Like a fisher, it casts its rod out and waits for an unwitting moth to come on by. It doesn’t even forget the bait. They don’t use maggots, but the scent of female moths, which is very attractive to male moths. As soon as prey comes near, the spider jumps into action. It tosses its line with impressive precision so that it gets stuck, and then “reels in” its prey.
