Capuchin Monkeys Want Fairness

They have a special sense of justice. In an experiment, the moneys were given little stones that they could swap for food. One monkey was given a piece of cucumber, while the other received a tasty grape. A third monkey was watching all this and thought: “That’s not fair!” He refused to swap his stone or rejected the cucumber he was given.

Capuchin Monkeys Compare Themselves to Others

The other monkeys got even madder when they saw that one monkey got a grape for nothing. But if there were no other monkeys nearby, there was no frustration. Capuchin monkeys compare themselves/their property to other monkeys.
