Is that supposed to be a nose? The elephant seal has a big ugly protrusion from its face. It doesn’t even look like a nose anymore, but like the trunk on an elephant. Just a lot shorter.

A big nose is very important to the elephant seal, as it can hold a lot of moisture. And this is exactly what it needs when it’s on land (especially during mating season). The elephant seal can also use its nose to call out loud: “Look over here, I’m the strongest and best”.
