Microbat vs. Flying Fox - What's the Difference?

3. Distribution and Habitat

BatDistribution
Microbat Everywhere, except Antarctica
Flying fox Tropical and subtropical regions

Microbat

Microbats can be found in many different environments, with Antarctica being the only place that's too cold for them to thrive. Of around 1.270 species, around 30 live in Central Europe. They prefer staying in caves throughout the day, where they’re safe from any threats. This is also the reason why they go hunting at night: there are fewer predators around to threaten them. However, there is one exception: In the Azores, a group of islands in the Atlantic, there are bats that are active during the day. The animalfunfacts team witnessed this firsthand! In the Azores, the bats hardly have any enemies and can therefore hunt insects during the day.

Flying Fox

Flying foxes prefer tropical and subtropical regions in Africa, Asia and Australia. Their habitat is primarily mangroves, rainforests and forests or bushes that are always green.
