Donkey or Horse - What’s the Difference?
2. Diet
Donkeys are less fussy and eat more plants than horses.
3. Sounds
Neigh or Hee-Haw? You can easily tell the difference between donkeys and horses by their calls. While a horse neighs, you’ll hear a “hee-haw” from a donkey.
4. Abilites
Surefootedness
Donkeys are much more surefooted than horses. They can deal with uneven ground with stones and rocks much better than horses can.
5. Behavior
When Scared
Horses panic. Donkeys and horses are flight animals. They don’t have sharp teeth or claws to defend themselves. They stay alive by running away from predators. But horses and donkeys behave completely differently. If a horse senses danger, it will mindlessly run away at high speeds. It just wants to get away!
Donkeys stay calm. A donkey will stay where it is and not move until it has analyzed the situation and found the best escape route. This tactic is very important to a donkey because they can’t run as fast as horses can. Sometimes the danger isn’t actually dangerous: corrugated iron reflecting sunlight is just corrugated iron. But still: they’re clever things, aren’t they!
