Record Breakers Beginning With U, V, W, X, Y, Z
• Zeus – the biggest dog in the world
Great Dane Zeus from Michigan (USA) was officially the largest dog in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records (2012/2013). He measured 46.45 inch (118 cm) to the shoulder and he was 86.6 inch (220 cm) tall when he stood on his back legs. As a comparison: that’s about the same size as a Shetland pony or a dwarf donkey! Zeus weighed 154.9 lb (70.3 kg) and ate 28.6 lb (13 kg) of food every day. Sadly, he died of old age at the age of 5 in September 2014. There has been no new record since.
• Zhu Pan – catches frisbees like a world champion
The Chinese dog Zhu Pan caught a frisbee 18 times over a distance of 10 m in 3 minutes. He made it into the Guinness Book of World Records (2013).
• Zinzan – fastest at agility slalom
German Shepherd Zinzan and his master Kobus Engelbrecht (UK) trained very hard. And it was worth it: Zinzan ran around 60 poles in an agility slalom in 12.14 seconds and made it into the Guinness Book of World Records (2006). In agility slalom, dogs go left and right around poles like skiers in slalom races.
• Zorba – heaviest and longest dog
This record was a while ago, but Zorba was the heaviest and longest dog in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records 1989. He weighed 343 lb (156 kg) and measured 98.8 inch (251) cm from his nose to the end of his tail. That’s around as long as a small donkey. Zobra was an English Mastiff and was seven years old at the time. After 2000, the records for heaviest animals were stopped because they didn’t want to motivate people to overfeed their pets. Quite right.

• Zuma – from PAW Patrol
Zuma is a chocolate Labrador training to be a coast guard in the animated show PAW Patrol. He is totally obsessed with water, and is a very good swimmer and diver. Zuma would be a lovely name for any Labrador or other dogs that love playing in rivers, lakes or the ocean.
• Zoe Trent – from Littlest Pet Shop
Zoe Trent is a cute Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that can sing very well. She just loves being in the spotlight and often takes part in dog shows. The name Zoe suits this dog breed well, but would also be a good fit for a Chihuahua, Papillon, Japanese Chin or Maltese.

• Zoey – small dog, great protector
Little Booker, a twelve month old baby, was playing in the garden of his grandparents’ house in Colorado (USA) in 2007. When he went to wash his hands in a bird bath, he was surprised to find a rattlesnake. Zoey, a 2.5kg Chihuahua, jumped in to protect Booker straight away. He was more important than her own life, and she ended up with a few bites. Booker was unharmed but it didn’t look like Zoey would make it. Thankfully, she recovered well.
