Venomous Animals in Germany
Yellow Sac Spider
- Habitat: High shrubs, clearings, meadows, waysides
- Distribution: Saarland, Rhine-Main area, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony
- Size: Up to 0.6 inches (1.5 cm)
- Characteristics: Red-orange front body, yellow to green abdomen
The yellow sac spider is active at night, hanging out in its web during the day. Their fangs are considerably longer than those of the garden spider. Especially when they’re defending the cocoon containing their young in July, they may bite and cause a painful wound. These can even turn dark and inflamed.
Some people even feel dizzy and sick and experience circulation problems. In this case, you should definitely go see a doctor. Usually, their bite is no worse than a wasp sting.
